Invented during the Ming dynasty, this traditionally lidded bowl (commonly known as a gaiwan or zhong) was used for the preperation of tea. Simply place your tea leaves inside the gaiwan then top off with hot water. The lid acts as a means to separate the tea leaves from the liquid.
